3rd part integration - Grow + Kit
AnsweredI have just moved my list to Kit. I already had some Grow subscribers. I have now set up the integration between Grow and Kit. However none of my older Grow subscribers have been imported into Kit.
- Does the integration only import Grow subscribers into Kit from the point at which I set up the integration?
- If so how can I import my previous Grow subscribers into Kit - would I have to do this manually by downloading the CS file and uploading to Kit?
- I also have Automailer set up on Grow and I'd like all my Kit subscribers to receive this too. So as the integration does not seem to have imported my Kit subscribers into Grow, would I also have to upload a CS file of my Kit subscribers to Grow?
- I have the double opt in set up on Kit as the recommended default. Is this perhaps blocking the integration? Would subscribers have to go through a second double opt in if I upload manually my Grow list to Kit or vice versa?

Hey Heather,
Yes, your Kit integration only imports from the time you integrate. It will not backfill Grow subscribers. You can download your Grow Subscriber CSV and upload to Kit. This article can help.
Your Automailer List is separate from your Grow CSV. If you do not have the “Automailer List” setting enabled on your Grow Subscribe forms, they are not being added to the Automailer List. You can upload both your Kit CSV and your Grow CSV (if needed) to the Automailer List under Grow Publisher Portal > Automailer > Automailer Settings. This article can help with that.
Grow will honor Kit's double opt-in setting. This means Grow subscribers will be added to the Grow CSV when they submit their emails to a Grow Subscribe form, but they will not be added to Kit until they confirm the subscription via Kit's double opt-in email.
Automailer does require confirmation via it's double opt-in email for any subscribers outside of the United States or who are imported without a country code. You can read more about Automailer's double opt-in here.

As a follow up to this, I uploaded my Kit list (1000+ subscribers) to Grow via the Automailer settings / import subscribers button.
However, so far I only see 431 subscribers on Automailer.
Question 1. I'm wondering what is the reason for this difference of 1000 Kit subscribers v 431 Automailer subscribers. How can I ensure that all my Kit subscribers get Automailer?
Question 2. Since I have integrations with Kit enabled, does that mean that any subscribers who sign up directly via Kit will also be automatically enrolled to the Automailer?
Many Thanks Heather

Hi Heather!
As explained above, subscribers outside of the US or without a country code in their import data need to confirm they consent to receiving Automailer emails via the double opt-in email sent by Grow. This email comes from noreply@growmailer.com and is sent as soon as the import is complete. It's possible some of your Kit subscribers had that email land in their spam or junk mail folders. This is largely up to how emails similar to a double opt-in email are handled by their specific email service and ways they've interacted with similar emails historically.
They also just may not consent to receiving additional emails.
Your Kit integration in Grow Publisher Portal is one way. It sends readers who subscribe via Grow's Subscribe forms to Kit, but it does not send any subscribers from Kit forms to Grow. For that reason, we recommend using only Grow's Subscribe forms. Subscribers can only be added to your Automailer list by subscribing with Grow Subscribe forms or CSV import.

Hi Ben
Thanks for your clarifications so far.
Question 1: Is there a way I can download a list of just those who are showing as Automailer Subscribers - currently showing at 431? As the Download of CSV list via Automailer settings / Download Subscribers - downloads the whole Grow list showing as 1052.
I'd like to try and upload my list again to see if I can get more people receiving the Automailer, but don't want to bother the ones already getting it.
Question 2: If I upload a list via the Automailer Settings / Import Subscriber CSV, will the system discount anyone already on the Automailer Subscriber list?

Hi Heather,
You're not able to download a CSV of only confirmed Automailer subscribers, but you can check the full CSV for the fields “automailerDoubleOptInRequired” and “automailerDoubleOptedIn.” If the required field is true, then the opted in field needs to be true for the subscriber to receive emails. Readers who have true or false for both values receive Automailer emails. A reader with true-false will not receive Automailer emails.
Automailer Imports does check for duplicate values and will not import an email that already exists in the Automailer List!
