Exit Intent Pop Up Subscribe allows you to adjust your Pop Up Subscribe’s trigger so that it is triggered by reader behavior that indicates they are leaving your site.
Exit intent behaviors vary by device, so the triggers will differ based on how users access your site.
On desktop devices, Exit Intent Pop Up Subscribe forms are triggered when users:
- Move their mouse toward the back or close buttons, a new tab, etc.
- Make their browser blur, i.e. navigate to another application, open a control panel, etc.
On mobile devices, Exit Intent Pop Up Subscribe forms are triggered when users:
- Quickly scroll up the page.
- Tap the address bar in their mobile browser.
- Navigate to a new tab.
How to Enable Exit Intent for Pop Up Subscribe Forms
Step 1: Navigate to Grow Publisher Portal > Subscribe > Forms and click Manage Form on your Pop Up Subscribe form.

Step 2: Scroll down to Pop-Up Trigger Settings and click the drop down menus to choose your preferred Display Experience.
Display Experience can be set for both mobile and desktop devices. They do not have to match. Available display experiences are:
- On Scroll (Default) - Pop Up Subscribe form appears when reader scrolls 25% of the way into content.
- Exit Intent - Pop Up Subscribe form appears when the reader behaves in a way that indicates they intend to leave the site.
- Do Not Show - Hides the Pop Up Subscribe form entirely on the chosen device.
Note: Mobile and Desktop display experience cannot both be set to “Do Not Show.” Click here to learn how to disable a Subscribe form.
Step 3: Scroll down the Manage Form page to click Save Changes in the bottom right. You’re all set!

Yes! You are able to apply Exit Intent triggers to any Pop Up Subscribe form, even those targeted to specific categories.
Can I have different behavior triggers on desktop and mobile devices?
Yes! You’re able to set the Display Experience by device for your Pop Up Subscribe forms. If you do not choose Exit Intent for either mobile or desktop, the default On Scroll trigger (when a reader scrolls 25% of the way into content) will apply to the readers on the devices where Exit Intent is not enabled.
You are not able to choose “Do Not Display” for both mobile and desktop devices.
