Spotlight Subscribe form / Languages
AnsweredMy blog is in English and German.
I just set up a spotlight subscribe form and could easily translate it to German. The EN form appears on the EN site and the DE form on the German site - perfect.
But if someone subscribes, the name of the form listed on my file is the name of the default spotlight form, so I dont know if the subscriber came via the German site or the English site. I could filter that by the URLs the subscriber came from but was wondering if there is an easier way: Like having two default spotlight subscriptions, where one is in English, and one is in German (so that I have two forms, and not one that is translated).
Hope my question makes sense. :-)

Hi Heidrun!
Your question makes sense (and I hope my answer will, too)!Using another Subscribe form depends on how your site is set up with the different languages.
If you've got different language posts assigned in language-specific categories – so German posts are in a category for German and English posts are in an English category – you could use Category Targeting to create a German-language Subscribe form to override the default Subscribe form on all posts in that category or do the same for English-language posts.
If categories aren't an option but you're able to manually edit the German or English version of a post, you could use a Manual Placement form. This would likely be easiest by adding the Manual Placement form to a post template or reusable/block pattern on a WordPress site. You can then go to the Manual Placement form's Advanced settings and deselect “Allow default form.” By doing that, you allow the Manual Placement form to be the only Subscribe form placed in that post, ensuring readers only see the form in the language you'd like them to.

Hi Ben,
I experienced the same thing. My blog is in English and French. The Subscribe feature translates perfectly however I have a different newsletter for the English and French audience. I noticed that the language option only translates the form meaning that my French audience would be added to my English newsletter group…
I noticed the category targeting as you explained in this post. However I cannot find this option for Link Share. I would like to add a Save This Recipe card via link share but how can I achieve this so that French readers don't subscribe to my English newsletter?
Many thanks,
Emma

Hi Emma!
This is a great question! Currently Link Share forms are not compatible with Category Targeting, but I will submit this feedback as a feature request. It's possible we could see Category Targeting for Link Share forms in a future update. It may be worth looking to your Email Service Provider and seeing if it's possible to send an email allowing subscribers to opt into a specific language mailing list that way. If this is something your Email Service Provider can do, you could use a Link Share form and add a Form Action specifically for the language choice email to be sent by the Email Service Provider, allowing readers to receive newlsetters in their preferred language. (This is definitely not an easy, ideal solution, but maybe a potential workaround!)
